Singapore Improv Festival 2018

Description

The Singapore Improv Festival is back for a second edition!

After a successful run in 2016, we're back this year to bring some spontaneous unscripted and unmissable stories to Singapore. This year we've got over 30 improv teams, featuring some amazing talents from overseas, truly the very best of the Asian Improv scene!

This year’s performers include Les Musicables, Singapore’s only dedicated musical improv troupe; The Modern Schemers, Singapore’s longest running improv team; and The Latecomers, a troupe of stand-up comedians who excel in Whose Line Is It Anyway style games.

And international teams from the Philippines (SPIT), Hong Kong (People’s Liberation Improv), Beijing (Beijing Improv), South Korea (Imfrog), Australia (Nick Byrne) and Germany (KurzFormChaos).

This year's festival spans 4 days, bringing you 10 shows featuring over 30 teams, as well as beginners and advanced workshops.

What is improv?

Improv is improvised theatre. That is: scriptless theatre. Be dazzled by the teams’ mental acrobatics and flights-of-fancy, as they make up characters, stories, and dialogue on-the-spot! With a little help from the audience, of course. Due to its spontaneous and malleable nature, no two Improv shows are ever the same, and they can span multiple genres like comedy, science-fiction, and even musicals! (Oh yes, the music is improvised too.). Many actors today got started in improv - Tina Fey, Steve Carrell and Amy Poehler for example. Offstage, improv theatre can be used in the workplace to foster principles like collaboration, creativity, and spontaneity. It's a truly accessible art form for anyone and everyone.

Join us for big laughs, quick-fire wit, and one-of-a-kind theatrical journeys--there’s no better way to spend the weekend!

About The Improv Company

The Improv Company does exactly what it says on the tin. As Singapore’s largest improvised theatre company, it consistently delivers high-octane and side-splitting performances at their studio on South Bridge Road. Along with their regular bi-monthly shows, the group has taken their brand of fly-by-the-seats-of-your-pants theatre to sell-out shows at the Singapore Night Festival, and to international audiences in Manila and Shanghai.

The company also runs a range of classes for stage newbies and seasoned improvisers, and regularly conducts coaching for corporate clients. Organisations like Facebook, Grab, NBC-Universal, Singtel and Temasek Holdings have all been introduced/immersed in the finer points of creative collaboration.
